My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations.

All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

 

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

"Q. Who is the Shepherd?

H. S. The Lord, Jehovah. And Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus of the New. He is the forsaken Man of Psalm 22, the accepted Man of Psalm 24.

W. B. D. Psalms 22, 23 and 24 form a group presenting Christ as the Good Shepherd in death, the Great Shepherd in resurrection, and the Chief Shepherd in glory.

A. J. P. The connection is obvious. Psalm 22 gives us the Saviour, in His past activity; Psalm 23, the Shepherd in His present activity; Psalm 24, the Sovereign in His future activity.

H. S. In Psalm 22 His strength is "dried up like a potsherd"; in Psalm 24 He is "strong and mighty." In the former He is "a worm and no man," in the latter, "the Lord of hosts" and "King of glory." This is the One who is "my Shepherd," One who has "descended first into the lower parts of the earth," who has "ascended up far above all heavens that He might fill all things." He has filled every position in which a man can be found, from the utmost distance to the highest glory. He has trodden every step between these vast extremes. With such a Shepherd we need fear no evil, nor wonder at any blessing He bestows."

“That in all things He might have the Pre-eminence” (Colossians 1:18).

. . . It pleased the blessed and ever-glorious Godhead to dwell in Christ, that by Him, through the work done at the cross, all things might be reconciled to that Fullness which dwells in Him; in the Son of the Father’s love, who became Man, and who died and rose again.

. . . His personal greatness was declared by the works that He did. The fish of the sea obeyed His word; water turned to wine at His bidding; demons released their victims at His command; and disease disappeared at His touch; strength, and sight, and speech, and hearing returned when He spake; yea, death and the grave, and even corruption, yielded up their prey at the sound of His voice. And these things He did as He walked in this world in lowly circumstances; when with the humble and the meek He was as One that served, when He humbled Himself to minister rather than to be ministered to. What divine grace!

A time, however, is drawing near when He will come in “great power and glory.” Circumstances of mighty majesty and regal radiance will then surround Him. All will be changed when He thus returns to take up publicly the Headship in every circle—in the religious and political, and in the social too. The “great Prophet” will be the Priest-King over all the earth! He shall be great indeed! He shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high! So shall He startle many nations! Kings shall shut their mouths at Him! At the One who was once despised and rejected!"

"the Word of God . . . is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4 :12  While the word "discern," frequently occurs in the Bible this is the only reference in which the peculiar Greek word Kritikos , from which is derived our English word critic , is used. The adjective used signifies that which relates to judging, fit for, or skilled in, judging; hence critical . The Bible is critical of our thoughts and intents, meaning, it's authority to discriminate and pass judgment on our thoughts and feelings. Because of the nature of the Bible the idea of it as our critic carries the promise of criticism which is just and deserved.  Presumptuous men call themselves critics of the Bible and sit in judgment upon it. They forget that the Bible is the infallible critic of their actions. We recognize that Biblical Criticism is of two kinds.
