Psalm 8

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

"The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Ephesians 6:17 " The Word of God . . . sharper than any two-edged sword." Hebrews 4 :12 "The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon." Isaiah 34:5 In this militant metaphor we have the promise of conquest, victory, and dominion. The Bible as our sword is the weapon we use as soldiers against spiritual foes. Declension and Its Course From: Christian Truth, Volume 36 1 Corinthians 10 In a day of widespread declension such as today, it may be useful to trace the steps which lead to a low point—thus revealing our true state. Exposure by the Word is one means by which God is able to deliver us from it. No one sets out on a downward path deliberately, though God may allow many warnings to come, and may even allow the discipline of His hand to be felt to awaken the soul that is indifferent from its lethargy.
